Join the SPIO Advisory Council

South Pacific Islander Organization is seeking experienced advisors to join the founding SPIO Advisory Council.

Join the Advisory Council of a brand new nonprofit focused on supporting and promoting Pacific Islanders (Polynesians, Micronesians and Melanesians) through leadership development, cultural awareness and community partnerships. Our 2019-2020 focus is preparing Pacific Islanders for college success through a free international mentorship and scholarship program. We are building a nonprofit led by Pacific Islanders and allies, for Pacific Islanders. This is a 1 year (renewable) remote, unpaid volunteer role starting August 1, 2019.


We are looking for a wide-range of Advisors to join our 2019-2020 Advisory Council:

  • Executive Advisors

    • Qualification: Experience in nonprofit strategic planning, nonprofit legal policies, nonprofit 501(c)3 compliance, Executive Director hiring, board management and employee management.

    • Role: Advise the Board President, Board Vice-President and Executive Committee for 1 hour per month.

  • Governance Advisors

    • Qualification: Experience in human resources, nonprofit governance policies, nonprofit board management, board recruitment, board succession planning and volunteer management.

    • Role: Advise the Board Secretary, Governance Chair and Governance Committee for 1 hour per month.

  • Finance Advisors:

    • Qualification: Experience in nonprofit financial planning, budgeting, accounting and creation of nonprofit financial policies.

    • Role: Advise the Board Treasurer, Finance Chair and Finance Committee for 1 hour per month.

  • Development Advisors:

    • Qualification: Experience in fundraising, marketing, grant-writing, donor stewardship and government funding.

    • (Optional, but highly preferable): Connections to potential funding sources.

    • Role: Advise the Development Chair and Development Committee for 1 hour per month.

  • Mentorship Advisors:

    • Qualification: Experience in community-building, college admissions, college counseling, youth mentorship, student affairs and nonprofit program management.

    • Role: Advise the Mentorship Program Committee for 1 hour per month.

  • Scholarship Advisors:

    • Qualification: Experience in higher education, college admissions, scholarship management, and community-building.

    • Role: Advise the Scholarship Program Committee for 1 hour per month.


  • Advise a brand new nonprofit led by Pacific Islanders and allies, for Pacific Islanders

  • Be part of the 2019-2020 Founding Advisory Council from August 2019-August 2020

  • Volunteer in an excitingly fast-paced and impact-driven community environment

  • Make a tangible impact on the international Pacific community

  • (Optional) Suggest national or international Pacific Islander programming

  • (Optional) Participate in meet & greets with board members, fellow advisors and community members.
